If OMBAC wanted to have a chance to play in the championship match they needed to secure a win against SFGG on Saturday. With Todd Clever a late addition to the starting line-up he proved to be a big part of the difference as OMBAC went on to win 62-36 in a thriller. Now there is a logjam in the middle of the table with three teams--SFGG, OMBAC, and Belmont Shore--all chasing Life West for a place in the final. SFGG and Belmont Shore have a one point lead over OMBAC.
SFGG got off to an explosive start with tries in the 1st and 4th minutes from Donaldson and Brendan Daly - one converted by Donaldson. OMBAC struck back with a try from Todd Clever converted by Kalei Konrad around the 11th minute. Clever, having played for OMBAC several seasons in the past, has joined the club on loan from the Austin Huns for the Cal Cup season, as part of an expanded partnership between the two clubs.
After Clever's try SFGG struck back, extending the lead to 22-7 with a try from Pila Huihui. Donaldson converted the try and had a penalty. OMBAC then scored back to back tries from Chris Turori and John Grant, both converted by Konrad to closee out the half at 22-21 to SFGG.
SFGG's Danny Laprovette scored first in the second half but the OMBAC went big scoring 5 straight tries from Tim Stanfill, 2 from Clever, Nick Evans, and another from Grant. Konrad and Pangelinan combined to covert three of the tries with Pangelinan adding another penalty to take it to 55-29. Then they traded final tries from Joe Fukafuka for SFGG and Grant for OMBAC with to reach a final of 62-36.
